Wilson Sims, Partner
Wilson Sims, Jr., Principal of Sims & Steele Consulting, specializes in capital campaigns, major gifts, strategic planning, board development, and facilitation. He has worked with non-profits for 35 years, beginning as an intern and rising to development director and later, consultant to non-profit organizations. Best known for designing and directing over 85 successful capital campaigns raising more than $200 million, the major focus of Wilson’s work has been helping his non-profit clients grow and thrive! Wilson established Sims & Steele Consulting in Asheville in 1994 so that regional non-profits would have access to strong, experienced, and local consulting at competitive rates. Wilson emphasizes: “Our relationships with many of the same non-profits continue as they find repeat value in our very personalized approach.” Much of his work also includes mentoring and working with younger professionals throughout Western North Carolina, providing both job opportunities and career advice. Wilson is a graduate of The Webb School, Bell Buckle, TN., holds a B.A. from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from Owen School, Vanderbilt University. Outside the office, Wilson is a Big Brother to Matthew (8 years) and is Convener of the French Broad River Greenway Committee. He enjoys time with his family and about anything outdoors.

Cate Ryba, Consultant
Cate Ryba is a Consultant for Sims & Steele with experience in foundation and donor research, grant writing and reporting, general fundraising, and project management. Cate began working in the nonprofit world in 2005 as a consultant at the Regional Planning Partnership, now PlanSmart New Jersey, where she learned project management, fundraising and community outreach in a small nonprofit setting. As a Communications Officer at the Mary Black Foundation for four years, Cate created and implemented communications plans, social media strategy, public relations strategy and capacity building work sessions with grantees. From 2010-2014, Cate served as the youngest member of City Council in Spartanburg, SC, an experience that taught her much about the importance of community partnerships, public policy and civic engagement. Cate is a 2012 graduate of Leadership South Carolina, and enjoys speaking at statewide and regional conferences on issues of creative placemaking and economic development. In 2013, Cate became executive director of the downtown revitalization nonprofit in Spartanburg, HUB-BUB, where she was the primary fundraiser, grantwriter and project manager for nearly two years. Most recently, she has been excited to be a volunteer organizer for Startup Weekend Asheville and for the Asheville Design Center. When not working, Cate enjoys hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains with her family and riding her bicycle.

Trevor Carr,
Firm Manager
Trevor Carr is the Firm Manager for Sims & Steele. He ensures that the office runs smoothly and efficiently. Trevor is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at UNC Asheville with a focus in welfare economics, particularly the educational policy implications of bridging the digital divide. He holds a general education degree with a background in bookkeeping and taxes. His previous experience is in Internet and computing technology solutions, nonprofit board and volunteer work with the Asheville Affiliates, and content selection for TEDx Asheville. Trevor has experience in tax preparation assistance through the IRS VITA program, and as an ally in a local chapter of Circles USA. He immediately hails from Chapel Hill but spent his early years in Atlanta. In his free time, Trevor plays drums in Asheville Second Line, a New Orleans Mardi Gras style marching brass band, cooks, dances, and does all manner of things in the great outdoors. He enjoys being an integral part of the Sims & Steele team and helping the wonderful clients that S&S serves!
